Maximising The Space In Your Skip

When it comes to hiring a skip, we typically recommend that you hire a skip a size up from what you think you need. This is primarily because you will always find more than you anticipated to go in the skip.

Bulky Items

Sometimes the whole reason we hire a skip is to get rid of bulky items. Think sofas, chairs, cupboards and even bathroom suites. However, if you are trying to get the most out of your skip, it will always be worth breaking everything down as much as you possibly can.
Breaking cupboards down so that they are simply flat panels will always work in your favour, and layering these at the base or sides of your skip will help them to take up as little room as possible.
With sofas, while we understand that these can be more difficult to break up, we still recommend getting them as broken up as possible. However, if they cannot be broken up, we recommend putting them in first. This enables you to pile the remainder of your waste on top.

Softer Items

You might be tempted to get all the heavier and bulky waste to the bottom of your skip. However, by popping your softer or crushable items at the bottom, the heavier items can crush them down, allowing you to make the most out of the space.

Plan Your Loading

Where possible, it is best to plan the loading of your skip. This includes taking the above into consideration, but also the other waste that you will be removing from your property.
We recommend any loose waste to go into the bottom of your skip (unless you have the above-mentioned) and any bagged waste on top where possible.
By planning your loading, you can dedicate sections or layers of the skip to specific waste, which can give you an indication of how much space you may have remaining at the end for any additional waste.

Items We Cannot Take

While we might be tempted to put everything we possibly can into the skip, unfortunately, we cannot accept certain items. Primarily we find fridges and freezers in our skips, these are amongst the items that we cannot take. This is due to the nature of the internal workings being considered a hazardous material.
Likewise, we cannot take any materials or substances that are considered hazardous. This includes chemicals, pesticides, asbestos, gas cylinders and medical waste. If you are unsure, please take a look at our page “What can you put in a skip?” or contact the team directly.

Skip Hire In Werrington For Garden Waste

In the height of summer, there’s nothing we brits love more than a good clearout. The sun might be blazing (as much as it does) and we’ll be in the mood to get stuff sorted. In this case, the garden.

August Garden Clearances

With the summer holidays well and truly upon us, and those with kids having time off to spend with them, what better time to get that garden under control?
The kids love being outdoors when the sun is shining, and giving them a way to help out is even better! So let’s grab them a pair of gardening gloves and get them working!

Getting The Kids To Help

Once the kids have their gloves on, there’s nothing stopping them from helping you rid the garden of all the excess waste. Of course, depending on the size of the kids will depend on how much help they can be, or where they can help.
For small children, we recommend that they aren’t too close to the skip itself as the metal body of our skips is the quickest way to a bruise or two. While bigger kids are a great way to get the skip loaded in a hurry!

Loading The Skip

When it comes to garden waste, we get a mixture of everything you can find in the garden. From giant tree roots to grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, old pots, broken-up fences, sheds and greenhouses. So when it comes to clearing your garden waste, consider the waste that you will be removing before throwing it all into the skip.
You might be tempted to put waste into the skip as you find it, however, by loading the skip in a specific order, you can increase the waste that you can fit, and make the most of your skip.
Loading softer cuttings and trimmings at the bottom of your skip allows for them to be compacted as more waste is loaded on top.
Bulkier items, such as your tree roots and panels will ideally be loaded on next as this allows for other waste to be entered into the skip around them to maximise the space.

Cooling Off

When it comes to working in the garden during the height of summer it’s not just the children who need to take time out of the sun. As you’re already in the garden, why not consider a padding pool? Keeping it in the shade helps the kids, and the adults take those all-important breaks while cooling off.
If the pools not for you, make sure to take regular shaded breaks with plenty of fluids.
